The Golden Retriever is a powerful, active dog, sound and well balanced, and possesses a personality that is eager, alert and self-confident. It is an ideal family pet, sportsperson's companion, guide or service dog. Golden Retrievers are gentle with children and enjoy the endless attention that children can provide. These dogs love to swim and should be allowed to do so whenever possible. Though they will adapt well to a kennel environment, they prefer human companionship and are not happy in solitude. In this program, Heather Morss, a championship breeder, joins veterinarian Bryan Pooley and animal behaviorist Claire Arrowsmith to take viewers step-by-step through all the stages of Golden Retriever ownership, including: what to look for in a breeder, choosing the right puppy from a litter, puppy-proofing your home, transporting your Retriever, what to do when you get home, toilet training, puppy's first visit to the vet, exercise routines, the importance of socialization and training, and taking your Retriever abroad. 07/10DE IJSCA 50 min.
